I remember last year the winter season was unbearable. When the  flu season was here it came at full force with an outbreak. Some hospital and health clinics across America had reached over capacity with patients infected with the flu. At that time I was skeptical of me and my  family getting vaccinated with the flu shot. My friends and family became very cautious of being around coworkers, friends, and even worse sending their kids off to school while being exposed to all those germs. So this year as the fall season rolls in I am getting prepared for this flu season, and if your willing to take some advice I can share some natural ways to keep you and your family safe from the flu?

1. Eat Wholesome and Healthy Foods; Ditch the Junk Food

Rather than eating fatty and processed foods. Stick to a diet that is plant based such as a fresh savory salad or hot bean soup. Also be sure to drink plenty of water to help flush your  system from those toxins and viral infections. Research has shown that a lot of processed foods are the main cause of many health issues

2. Honey and Spice Will Make a Hot Cup of Water Nice, So Don’t Use Artificial Sweeteners

Although a glass of water should always be the primary beverage when you’re under the weather. Occasionally a hot cup of ginger tea or mint tea with a hint of honey before bed can ease your flu-like symptoms.

  • Ginger contains high quantities of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that will help boost your immune system and soothe your sore throat.
  • Mint leaves contain menthol which will help relieve congestion and encourage productive cough.

Steer clear of sugar and artificial sweetenersand use honey instead.Sugar will make yourbody’s immune system work harder to recover from flu.

Adding honey toyour hot tea will soothe your soar throat and reduce irritating cough.

3. Disinfect, Deodorize, and Soothe Your Home with Essential Oils not Household Cleaners

Most household cleaners are filled with tons of toxins and chemicals. These toxic filled household cleaners are beginning to cause many common health issues such as:

  • hormone disruption
  • adrenal fatigue
  • low energy
  • weight loss resistance
  • autoimmune conditions
  • inability to focus
  • low productivity
  • even cancer

Instead of using household cleaners, essential oils can be used to clean while having other health benefits. You will also save money using essential oils for its multi purpose rather than the common household cleaner. Lavender, frankincense, lemon, peppermint, and tea tree are the essential oils that are preferably used during flu season, which gives off a pleasant and soothing smell throughout your house. These essential oils provide many health benefits such as:

  • antibacterial
  • antifungal
  • antiviral
  •  many more properties.

4. Mama Jewel’s Flu Shot Always Works Best

Mama Jewel, my (second mom) stepmom owned and operated a lifestyle center. She believed in natural medicine, so anytime my siblings and I had a fever, she always pulled out fruits and vegetables to make a concoction for our illness. One common concoction that was made in our house during the flu season was known as, Mama Jewel’s Flu Shot. The recipe is as follows:

juice of 3 lemons

1  garlic clove, minced

1/4  teaspoon organic turmeric powder

1/2   teaspoon organic ginger powder

1/8  teaspoon organic cayenne pepper

1 and 1/2 cups organic pineapple juice

1 tablespoon raw honey

Blend in a blender and heat in a saucepan on medium high heat until hot. Drink 1/2 cup a day during flu season or three times/day if you feel you are starting to get sick.

5. Don’t Forget To Cover Your Mouth When You Sneeze and Wash Your Hands Please!

The most important way to get through flu season and to prevent others from getting sick in your house is to practice hygiene etiquette: cover your mouth and wash your hands. Two ways to encourage your family to practice safe hygiene and etiquette is to place tissue boxes in every room of your house. Tissue should be easy to reach, which is better than sneezing in their hands. Another way to encourage your family to practice safe hygiene and etiquette is to keep hand sanitizer around the house and soap dispensers filled with antibacterial soap in the bathrooms and the kitchen. Now there’s no excuse those kiddos should not have those hands cleaned after they leave the bathroom or after they sneeze. Sometimes a nice reminder to wash their hands could be written on a piece of paper and posted on the bathroom wall so kiddos won’t forget.

Become More Familiar with Making Natural Medicine at Home

Now these five simple and natural remedies can for sure keep your family out of the hospital and away from those dangerous and skeptical flu shots. Instead you can try the holistic approach by using

  • Essential oils to sanitize and soothe flu symptoms
  • Create natural flu remedies
  • Stick with a healthy diet and drink plenty of water
  • Try new teas with spice and honey to soothe your flu symptoms
  • Practice safe hygiene and etiquette by covering your mouth and sanitizing your hands

What holistic medicine do you use when you and/or your family comes down with a fever?

  1. I love this. You are really empowering people to take care of them selves seriously. I would rather use mama jewel’s remedy on my daughter before I take her to a place known for killing off African American kids. Plus the benefits of ginger alone may be more useful than the shots that carry the virus. Thanks for waking people up to things we should all know about. Continue the good work. God bless you mami kelviana.
